STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern men's basketball coach Mark Byington announced today that Alex Meltzer has been promoted to director of operations.

Meltzer spent the last two seasons as a graduate manager where he served as the program's video coordinator, including film breakdown, coordinating film exchange, creating team highlight videos, advance scouting of opponents and helping the student-athletes with individual film needs. Meltzer moves into the role vacated by Rob Burke who joined the new staff at UNC Wilmington.

"Alex has been extremely valuable to our program the past few years in his role as a graduate assistant and manager," said Byington. "It was a very easy hire for me because I know he brings great work ethic, loyalty, and passion for basketball. He is very intelligent and has a bright future in coaching and college basketball."

The Georgia Southern men's basketball program continued its upward arc in 2016-17. The Eagles improved their overall record (18-15) and Sun Belt record (11-7), finished third in the conference and played in the postseason for the first time since 2006 and just the seventh time in the Division I era. GS returns all five starters and all nine student-athletes in the rotation to the 2017-18 roster.
