STATESBORO, GA. - Landon Hughes and
Jordan Wren heard their names called on Day Two of the 2017 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. Hughes was picked in the seventh round by his hometown Atlanta Braves while Wren was selected by the Boston Red Sox for the second-straight year. The final day of the 2017 MLB Draft starts on Wednesday at Noon.
2017 marks the sixth time in Georgia Southern Baseball history that two Eagles have been selected in the first 10 rounds and the first time since 2012. Two Eagles were selected in the first 10 rounds in 1976, 1979, 1980, 2003, 2012, and 2017.

Landon Hughes was the first Eagle to have his name called in the 2017 draft when his hometown Atlanta Braves selected the fireballing right-handed pitcher. A native of Marietta, Hughes played two seasons for the Eagles, going 12-4 with 12 saves and a 2.33 ERA. He has 122 strikeouts over the last two season while holding opponents to a .164 average.
The selection of Hughes was the seventh in a run of nine-straight picks from the southeast by the Braves.
Jordan Wren was a late selection on Day Two, when the Boston Red Sox selected the senior with the 311th overall pick in the 10th round. Wren hit .281 in two seasons with the Eagles, slugging nine home runs with six this season. He earned a pair of Sun Belt All-Tournament Team selections and had an eight RBI game in April at Mercer.
The 2017 selection of Wren marks the second-straight year that the Eagle right fielder has been drafted by Beantown.
One member of the Eagles' 2017 signing class was drafted on Monday night. Outfielder Cole Brannen was selected No. 63Â overall in the second round by the Boston Red Sox. Brannen is a native of Perry, Georgia and a product of the Westfield Schools.
