GS wraps up regular season, celebrates five seniors on Senior Day
STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern softball team wrapped up regular season play and celebrated five seniors during today's doubleheader at Eagle Field. The Eagles (24-28, 12-15 SBC) dropped both games to Georgia State (33-21, 18-9 SBC), falling 9-1 in game one and 15-0 in game two.
The Eagles now shift their attention to the Sun Belt Conference Tournament which begins in Troy, Alabama next Wednesday. The full tournament bracket will be released on Sunday night after the conclusion of each of the team's regular season slates. For more information, check out the Sun Belt's website here.
GAME ONE - PANTHERS 9, EAGLES 1 (5 innings)
Georgia State came out with hot bats in game one, knocking three home runs in the third inning and taking an early lead. The Eagles plated a run in the fourth inning off of a sacrifice bunt from Andrea McKenzie, but the Panthers explosive offense was enough to lift them to a five inning run rule victory.
Dixie Raley (L, 13-17) started the game and was tabbed with the loss, throwing only 2.1 innings. Kierra Camp and Amanda Chambers pitched in relief and finished out the game for the Eagles. At the plate, Emily Snider, Shelby Wilson and Macy Weeks each recorded a hit.
GAME 2: PANTHERS 15, EAGLES 0 (5 innings)
The Panthers carried their hot bats into game two, tacking on ten runs in the first two innings of play. Georgia State was able to total 14 hits in the game and 15 runs, only one of which was unearned. Georgia Southern's only two hits in game two came from senior Emily Snider, who went 2-2 in her last game at Eagle Field.
Kierra Camp (L, 8-8) got the start for GS and took the loss in game two. Heather Felt, Amanda Chambers and Kaylee Ramos all pitched in relief to finish out the game.
