DESTIN, Fla. – Steven Fisk fired a 5-under 66, and Jake Storey carded a 68 to lead the Georgia Southern men's golf team into third place after the first round of the Sun Belt Championship at the Raven Club Sunday.

The tournament was scheduled for 36 holes today, but thunderstorms in the area caused a three-hour, 16-minute weather delay while the Eagles were on holes 5-7.

Play resumed at 1:26 p.m. local time, and the teams finished the first round and started the second before play was suspended because of darkness with the Eagles on holes 7-10. The teams will finish the second round tomorrow morning, starting at 7:30 a.m. CT, and will play the third round after that.

With the first round in the books, Georgia Southern (+1) is one stroke behind second-place Troy (E) and seven behind first-place Georgia State. South Alabama (+4) is three behind the Eagles, followed by Coastal Carolina (+6).

Fisk leads the field by one shot over Alexander Hermann (-4) of Georgia State. Storey (-3) is tied for third with two others. Archer Price shot 73, Brett Barron carded a 78 and Cody O'Toole posted a 79 for the Eagles.

The top four squads on the leaderboard after stroke play will advance to match play Tuesday. The top seed will take on the fourth seed, and No. 2 will meet No. 3 in a morning session with the winners squaring off in the afternoon.

The story
Fisk rolled in a tournament leading seven birdies in the first round. The sophomore birdied holes 1, 4 and 9 to shoot 32 on the front and made four birdies on the back, including holes 17 and 18 to post 34 coming in.

Storey made six birdies in the first session and played an eight-hole stretch in the middle of the round 3-under with five pars and three birdies. The junior was 1-under on his final six holes of the round with a birdie on 17.

Price started the day with seven straight pars and birdied hole 8 while shooting 34 on the front.

Quotable from Coach Carter Collins
"We faced a lot of adversity today on the course with weather stoppages and course condition changes being the main two. But Coach Metts and I are proud of this team for showing the resilience that they have been showing all year."

"We have an opportunity to take a break, work on a few things and be ready to play our best tomorrow. We're looking forward to the challenge."

Next up
Georgia Southern will finish its second round tomorrow starting at 7:30 a.m. CT and then play 18 holes for the third and final round of stroke play.
