The two teams will face off in the series finale Sunday at 11 a.m.
STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern softball team split with Texas State in a Sun Belt conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles defeated the Bobcats 2-0 in game one behind a dominant pitching performance from Dixie Raley. Texas State was able to top the Eagles in game two, winning 9-4. GS moves to 22-21 on the year, 12-8 in conference play.
GAME ONE: GS 2, TXST 0
The Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after an RBI single from Morgan Robinson, taking the early lead. Both teams remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Emily Snider hit an RBI-triple to score Lydia Witkowski from second. The two run lead was all that the Eagles needed to win game one, 2-0.
Dixie Raley (W, 13-13) went the distance in the circle, throwing her sixth shutout of the season. The sophomore only allowed two hits throughout seven innings of work, striking out seven. At the plate, Morgan Robinson and Lydia Witkowski led the way with two hits. Mekhia Freeman, Emily Snider and Alesha Mann each had one hit in game one.
GAME TWO: TXST 9, GS 4
Texas State attacked early in game two, loading up the bases without an out and plating five runs within the top of the first. The Bobcats scored another two in the second to take a 7-0 lead, but senior pitcher Amanda Chambers was able to come in and shut down the Bobcat offense, throwing four scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Macy Weeks came up big for the Eagles in the fourth inning with a two-RBI double to the wall to score the first GS runs of the game. Lydia Witkowski doubled in the sixth to score Haley Carter, cutting the deficit 6-3. Senior Emily Snider knocked her 12th homerun of the season in the seventh inning but it wasn't enough for the Eagles, who dropped game two, 9-4.
Kierra Camp got the start for GS but wasn't able to record an out in the first. Heather Felt came in relief and threw 1.1 innings but was relieved by Amanda Chambers who threw the final 5.2 innings and only allowed four hits.
