Final results

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – Ella Ofstedahl shot a 73, and the Georgia Southern women's golf team finished eighth at the Sun Belt Championship Wednesday at The Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals.

Troy (+14) won the title by five strokes over Georgia State (+19). The Eagles finished three strokes ahead of Coastal Carolina.

Georgia State's finish ahead of Georgia Southern gives the Panthers a point in the Southern vs. State Rivalry Series. State now leads this year's competition 10-3.

Lauren Coe shot 75 today, Iben Hvass carded a 76 and Ansley Bowman posted a 77. Taylor Thompson finished with an 83. Hvass (+9) tied for 21st, Coe (+12) placed 26th and Bowman (+14) tied for 31st.

The story
The Eagles started on hole 10 again today, and Ofstedahl made two birdies to shoot 37 on her first nine. The freshman shot an even-par 36 on her final nine, finishing with four pars and a birdie on her final five holes.

Coe shook off a tough start by making four birdies in a six-hole stretch in the middle of her round. The senior led the Eagles with four birdies today.

Hvass made birdie on hole 12 to play her first six holes even and made two birdies to shoot 37 on her final nine holes of the tournament. Bowman shot one over on her final eight holes of her first nine and finished the day with three straight pars.

Quotable from coach Emily Kuhfeld
"It was a disappointing and early end to our season today, but there were positives to take from this event. First, our three seniors have been a huge part of building this program, and we are very proud of them. Iben is a true competitor, and she has been a rock for us for the last two years. Lauren greatly contributed with her game and attitude this past year, and Taylor is heading off to a great future in golf instruction. Her experiences here will help her be successful in that."

"Ella was our low round of the day, and it was amazing watching her confidence grow each round this week. Ansley is on her way to becoming a great player, and I am looking forward to the fall with both of them returning and being able to help them grow as golfers and young women."

"Kortnie, our graduate assistant, has done a great job these past two years and will be moving on in the coaching world. We wish her the very best and thank her for all she has contributed."

Next up
The Eagles return three letterwinners - Bowman, Ofstedahl and Julianna Collett - to the 2017-18 roster.
