MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – Iben Hvass shot a 73, and the Georgia Southern women's golf team played solid on its back nine to stay in eighth place after the second round of the Sun Belt Championship Tuesday at The Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals.

Troy (+11) moved ahead one spot to the top of the leaderboard, and Georgia State (+13) posted the lowest round of the day to move into second. Texas State (+14) dropped to fourth. The Eagles are six shots back of South Alabama in seventh and nine behind sixth-place Arkansas State.

Hvass (+5) moved up 12 spots into a tie for 14th, and Lauren Coe shot 75 to move into a tie for 24th. Ansley Bowman, who shot 74 to lead the Eagles yesterday, carded a 79 and is also tied for 24th. Taylor Thompson shot a season-low 79 today, and Ella Ofstedahl carded an 81.

The story
The Eagles started on hole 10 today and combined to play their final nine holes three strokes better than their first nine.

Hvass led the squad with three birdies, giving her five for the tournament, which is tied for the second-most in the field of 50 competitors. The senior started the day with four straight pars and made birdie on holes 15 and 16 to make the turn at 1-under. She played her final six holes even.

Coe parred each of her final nine holes and had a stretch of four straight pars in her first nine, and Thompson ran off five straight pars on her front nine and finished the round with five consecutive pars.

Bowman recorded nine straight pars after a bogey on hole 1 and made birdie on holes 3 and 5 to move to 1-over on the day. The sophomore ran into some trouble when her ball found the water on 9, her final hole of the day. Ofstedahl shot 37 on her final nine holes and parred nine of her final 10 holes of the day.

Quotable from coach Emily Kuhfeld
"It was a little bit better today, but we still have a ways to go tomorrow. We had some great streaks of pars as a team, which was good to see. Tomorrow is a new day, and we have a lot to build on."

"Iben played solid today, which was nice to see. Her attitude and bounce-back were the best I had seen all year."

Next up
