Eagles Begin Nine Match Road Trip in Texas

Men's Tennis travels to Texas to begin its nine match road stint
STATESBORO, Ga. – Beginning on Saturday the Eagles will head on the road for nine of the final 10 matches they will play this season. The blue and white will head to Texas to begin a four match road stint in The Lone Star State. The guys will take on Abilene Christian University and Idaho University on Saturday March 11th.
ACU enters play with a 9-8 record, and a 1-1 record at home. The Wildcats have competed against Texas, SMU, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Baylor, and Rice. They also defeated Air Force 4-3 at the beginning of the season, which was part of a seven match winning streak. Idaho enters play with a 5-2 record, and holding a four match winning streak.
Sunday afternoon the Eagles will travel to San Antonio, Texas to clash with the Cardinals from Incarnate Word. The Cardinals enter play with a 4-9 record, after dropping their last three contests. The Cards are 3-3 at home and will host their next four matches.
"We are coming off of a couple good weekends at home," head coach Sander Koning said. "We will be on the road for the first time in a long time. Other than playing good teams our biggest challenge is dealing with travel and getting ourselves ready to compete. It will be good for us since we will play a lot of matches on the road coming up. I am looking forward to see where we are as a team."
LAST TIME OUT
The Eagles capped off three of their final four home matches, facing off against Kennesaw State, Bethune-Cookman, and East Carolina. The Eagles would finish off the weekend with a 3-0 record, and broke the Wallis Tennis Center attendance record on Saturday afternoon. The blue and white would defeat Kennesaw State 5-2 in the first portion of the doubleheader. In the afternoon match the Eagles took care of the Wildcats 4-0, leaving just East Carolina left for the weekend. Monday afternoon the Eagles clinched the doubles point with a come from behind victory by Chris Kerrigan and Diego Finkelstein. The guys would use this momentum to carry on their victory sinking the Pirates 5-2 in Statesboro.
