STATESBORO, Ga. – Members of the Georgia Southern football, men's golf, men's basketball, men's soccer and men's tennis teams joined several coaches and administrators to participate in the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event Thursday on campus.
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is an international program that aims to raise awareness and encourage communication about gender relations and sexual violence. Men throughout the campus and local community are invited to walk in high-heeled shoes to draw attention to the issue. All proceeds are donated to the Statesboro Regional Sexual Assault Center (SRSAC) where free assistance is offered to victims.Â
Frank Baird created Walk a Mile in Her Shoes in 2001 and the event has helped raise millions of dollars for local rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters and sexual violence education, prevention and remediation programs.
The teams and administrators donned high-heel shoes and walked a mile across campus to show their support for the cause. This event was co-sponsored by the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), University Wellness Program, Health Services, the Multicultural Student Center, and University Housing.
