NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference named Georgia Southern's
Mike Hughes its men's basketball Player of the Week today.
Hughes averaged 18.5 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 2-0 week for the Eagles last week. The junior guard shot 57 percent from the field and 71 percent from 3-point range (10-for-14) for the week. He posted 17 points, six rebounds and two assists vs. ULM and 20 points, four boards, four steals and two assists against Louisiana.
Hughes hit the go-ahead 3-pointer against the Ragin' Cajuns and converted a conventional 3-point play after getting a steal to help seal the win. He now has 928 career points, 72 away from joining the 1,000-point club at Georgia Southern.
Hughes is the third different Eagle to win Sun Belt Player of the Week this season, joining sophomores
Tookie Brown (Jan. 3) and
Ike Smith (Jan. 24).
The Eagles return to the road for a pair of conference games at Coastal Carolina Saturday and at Appalachian State Monday.
