FanFest A Hit As Spring Seasons Approach

STATESBORO, Ga. - It was a busy Saturday in Statesboro as the Georgia Southern Athletics Department hosted its Spring Sports Fan Fest at an upgraded J.I. Clements Stadium before the men's and women's basketball doubleheader against ULM. The event featured a baseball scrimmage, autograph session with Eagle spring sport student-athletes and an on-field baseball kid's clinic. 

Fans got their first chance to see the 2017 Georgia Southern baseball team in action with an intra-squad scrimmage that started at 10 a.m. During the scrimmage, kids were able to play on inflatable games on the concourse and fans were able to pick up their 2017 spring sport posters and schedule cards.

The Georgia Southern Athletics Ticket Office was also on hand selling season tickets, allowing fans to select their seat for the 2017 season and distributing previously purchased season tickets. 

While the scrimmage was going on down on Jack Stallings Field, Georgia Southern's spring sports student-athletes from softball, men's golf, swimming & diving and rifle signed autographs up on the stadium's main concourse.

After the baseball team's scrimmage, the squad held a free kid's clinic on the field. Baseball student-athletes worked with youngsters on the diamond and participants received a free ticket for the basketball games.

Following the kid's clinic, the baseball team signed autographs on the concourse. The field was also be open for fans to get an up close view of the new Blue Monster in right field and the new video board in left field. Fans were take their picture on the field and explore the updated home of Georgia Southern baseball.

Georgia Southern Baseball hosts the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Baseball Tournament this spring at J.I. Clements Stadium. The annual event crowns the conference champion and awards a spot in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. The six-day tournament begins on May 23.

The track & field, tennis, swimming & diving and rifle squads are already underway with their respective seasons. The golf squads will start the spring portions of their seasons later this month.

The softball squad opens its season next weekend, hosting the Eagle Round Robin. Tennessee Tech, Middle Tennessee, UNCG and No. 15 Tennessee will be in town for a three-day event that starts on Friday. The full schedule and tournament page can be found here and admission is free.

The baseball squad opens the 2017 season on Feb. 17 as Middle Tennessee comes to Statesboro for a three-game series. The Eagles are at home for their first eight games, including a midweek contest against Georgia Tech and a weekend series against Georgia on Feb. 24-26.
