KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Iben Hvass shot a 1-under-par 71, and the Georgia Southern women's golf team moved up eight spots into 10th in the second round of the Edwin Watts Kiawah Island Spring Classic Tuesday at Oak Point.
The Eagles, who tied for the biggest move up the leaderboard of the day, advance to the championship round with 21 other teams and will play at Osprey Point for tomorrow's final round. The remaining 21 teams will play for a flight championship at Oak Point.
Ariana Macioce shot an even-par 72 today and is in a three-way tie for fifth in the field of 232 competitors. The sophomore (-2) is four strokes behind the leader and one stroke out of third. Hvass moved 56 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 22nd.
Coastal Carolina (+8) leads the tournament by seven strokes over East Tennessee State (+15). Georgia Southern (+25) is eight strokes behind Southern Miss (+17) in fifth and two strokes ahead of Elon (+27).
Yeji Shin carded a 75 today, while
Lauren Coe and
Ansley Bowman each shot 78.
The story
Hvass birdied two of her first five holes, ran off seven straight pars in the middle of her round and made birdie on the 360-yard, par-4 18th hole.
Macioce birdies holes 3, 9 and 13 and played her first 15 holes 2-under. Shin played her first seven holes 2-under and was 1-over through 14 holes.
Bowman played her first four holes 1-under and ran off seven straight pars during her round, while Coe started the day with four straight pars, shot par or better with a birdie on five consecutive holes and finished the round with a pair of pars.

The Eagles are paired with Elon, Murray State and Stetson and will tee off holes 8-10 in a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m.
