Georgia Southern returns to action in the Amelia Island Collegiate Monday and Tuesday. It's the second tourney of the spring for the Eagles, who kicked off the season with a third-place finish at the Texas State Invitational last week. It's the Eagles' second tournament in Florida this season. GS played in the Jacksonville Classic in the fall and finished 10th.
GS will go with the same lineup as last week, and senior
Taylor Thompson played her way into a spot as an individual and will make her first start of the season.Â
Ariana Macioce tied for second at the Texas State Invitational and finished two strokes behind medalist Leonie Harm (+5) for the second top-5 and third top-10 finish of her career. The sophomore led the tournament in par-4 scoring and ranked second in pars with 37.
Iben Hvass (+18) tied for 25th, and
Ansley Bowman (+19) tied for 30th. Â
Yeji Shin (+20) tied for 32nd, and
Lauren Coe (+21) tied for 36th. Georgia Southern (+59) was five strokes behind tourney host Texas State (+54) and 10 strokes behind champion UTSA (+49).
Hvass has been in the lineup for all 15 tournaments of her Georgia Southern career, while Macioce will make her 14th start. Shin gets the nod for the 13th time in her career. Senior transfer Lauren Coe has been in the lineup for every tournament this season, and Bowman will make her fourth start of the year.
The Eagles will wrap up a busy February by traveling to the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate Feb. 26-28.
