ATHENS, GA.
– Georgia Southern Swimming & Diving closed the second day of the 2017 CCSA Championships in third place. Anna Rose Moore earned the highest finish of the day, a sixth place finish in the 500 Free, but the day's drama came in the 200 Individual Medley where Bre Stuart and Courtney Schaefer both bested the old school record twice.

The race for the 200 IM school record started in the morning session when Courtney Schaefer broke Mykala Arnold's 2016 school record by 0.03 seconds. That record stood for three minutes as Bre Stuart shaved 0.07 off the record in the next heat.

In the evening session, Stuart shaved 0.97 seconds off her morning time to lower her school record to 2:03.83 and win the B-Final, taking ninth place overall. Schaefer cut 0.25 seconds off her morning time to place second in the B-Final and 10th overall.

Anna Rose Moore opened the night session with Georgia Southern's first trip to an A-Final in this year's CCSA Championships. She took sixth place with a 4:59.88 in first distance event of the meet.

Three Eagles reached the B-Final of the 50 Free with Kaylyn Thomas leading the flock home in the splash and dash. She placed in a tie for 10th, swimming a personal record 23.56. Anna Moers placed 12th with a 23.64 while Athena Cimino came 13th with a 23.75.

In the night's final event the Eagles reached the podium for the third time in the meet, placing third in the 200 Free Relay. The Eagles trailed Campbell for third place at the halfway point, but a solid final two legs from Cimino and Thomas put the Eagles back on the podium to close the second night of competition.

QUOTABLES
Head Coach Laura Thomas
"Tonight was another great night for us. Bre Stuart broke the school record in the 200 IM and our 200 Free Relay team was third. Our distance girls were much better tonight and turned in solid swims. We had four girls in the 50 Free who turned around and put together an excellent relay swim. We're excited for another big day on Friday."
