STATESBORO, Ga. – For the third consecutive week in a row, the Georgia Southern women's track and field team broke school records in the Mile and the 5000 meters. The Eagles will now turn their attention to the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships, at the Birmingham Crossplex.
"We had another stepping stone yesterday at the Birmingham Crossplex," head coach
Kelly Carter said. Two more school records went by the wayside with
Ellunde Montgomery in the mile and
Ashton Lord in the 5000. We had a couple great performances in other events and that is setting us up really nicely for the upcoming Indoor Conference Championships."
Ellunde Montgomery broke the school record in the mile posting a time of 5:04.77. Her time moved her into eighth place in the Sun Belt Conference. Teammate
Ashton Lord broke the school record in the 5000m as well. She continues to sit in sixth place in the conference after posting her time of 18:07.85 at the Wake Forest Invitational.
The blue and white will have 10 days off to get ready to return to the Birmingham Crossplex where they will compete in the Sun Belt Indoor Championships on Monday February 20
