Montay Crockett Elevated To Jacksonville's Active Squad

Receiver could see action in Sunday's regular season finale

STATESBORO - Former Georgia Southern wide receiver Montay Crockett has been pulled up off the Jacksonville Jaguars' practice squad to the team's active 53-man roster.

The rookie from Rock Hill, South Carolina, replaces Jaelen Strong, who tore his ACL on Sunday, on the team's roster.

Crockett had a standout Pro Day on campus, but went as an undrafted free agent signing of the Green Bay Packers. He appeared in three preseason games, catching one pass for 12 yards. Crockett was one of the final cuts on the final day of cuts and bounced around for two months, trying out with the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans before landing with the Jacksonville Jaguars' practice squad on Oct. 31, where he remained until he was called up on Tuesday.

Crockett appeared in 47 games with 18 starts at GS and totaled 32 receptions for 535 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 15 carries for 144 yards and two touchdowns and was a threat on special teams as a return man, as well.

Crockett joins fellow Georgia Southern alums Jerick McKinnon (Vikings), J.J. Wilcox (Steelers), Matt Breida (49ers), Ukeme Eligwe (Chiefs) currently on active rosters while Antwione Williams (Vikings) is on the practice squad and Edwin Jackson (Colts) is on the injured reserve. Younghoe Koo was with the Chargers for the first four games of the 2017 season before being released.

The Jags play at Tennessee on Sunday and Crockett has a chance to be on the 45-man game day squad with the depletion of the receiving corps. Jacksonville has clinched a berth in the playoffs and will be the No. 4 seed in the AFC.
