Men’s Basketball Signs Four in Early Period

The quartet will join the roster for the 2018-19 season.

STATESBORO – Men's basketball coach Mark Byington announced today that Trey Dawkins (Forest City, N.C./East Rutherford/Southwest Tennessee Community College), Elijah McCadden (Rocky Mount, N.C./Greenfield), Calvin Wishart (Delano, Minn./Delano) and David Viti (Buford, Ga./Buford) have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Georgia Southern and compete for the Eagles, beginning in the 2018-19 season.

"This is an extremely important recruiting class for the future of our program," said Byington. "We are graduating some great players who have helped us win a lot of games. We have been recruiting and evaluating most of these guys for years, and my staff has done a tremendous job of signing great young men for this class who should be great players for Georgia Southern in the near future."

Trey Dawkins, 6-9, F, Forest City, N.C./East Rutherford/Southwest Tennessee Community College | Highlights
Will play out his sophomore season at Southwest Tennessee and join the Eagles for 2018-19 as a junior in eligibility… Averaged 18.9 points, nine rebounds and two blocks a game in his senior season at East Rutherford, the alma mater of former Eagles Devonte and Devince Boykins… Averaged three points and 2.1 rebounds in 15 games in his first season at Southwest Tennessee.
Byington on Dawkins: "Trey will give us great experience at the post position. He is very skilled and athletic. He has the ability to block shots, shoot 3s and make plays for his teammates. He is the perfect, versatile player who does well in our system and brings us great size at 6-foot-9."

Elijah McCadden, 6-6, G/F, Rocky Mount, N.C./Greenfield School | Highlights
Averaged 19 points a game as a junior for Greenfield School and named Wilson Times All-Area… Averaged 22 points, 9.2 rebounds and 7.2 assists as a sophomore at Rocky Mount Academy and registered 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists as a freshman… Played AAU on Team CP3 last summer after playing on Boo Williams in 2016.
Byington on McCadden: "Elijah is an extremely talented player. He is positionless and can play the point guard or any wing spot. He is very athletic and has a great feel for the game. I can't wait to coach him, and he should make an immediate impact in our program as a freshman."

David Viti, 6-5, G/F, Buford, Ga./Buford | Highlights
Averaged 13.3 points and 4.8 rebounds while helping lead Buford to the 2017 AAAAA Georgia High School State Championship and a 29-2 record… Tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds in the championship game and scored 16 points in the semifinal round… Played his sophomore season at Lambert.
Byington on Viti: "David is very athletic and can play multiple positions. He is an elite shooter who should be able to get a lot of open shots in our system. I think he is only scratching the surface on how good he can be. My favorite things about him are his toughness and his ability to be a leader. He plays with great confidence that is contagious to his teammates."

Calvin Wishart, 6-1, G, Delano, Minn./Delano | Highlights
Named preseason all-state by Northstar Hoops Report… Averaged 27.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 8.1 assists and made 89 3-pointers in his junior season… Averaged 12.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists for D1Minnesota last summer on the AAU circuit… Caught 52 passes for 1,251 yards and 13 touchdowns as a senior on the Delano football team.
Byington on Wishart: "Calvin caught my eye this summer when he outplayed a lot of players in our region who we were recruiting. He continued to outplay a number of highly-ranked players all across the country and plays with a great swagger and a great edge. He is fearless on the court. He can make the basic fundamental play and also the spectacular play. He should be a great fit for our style."

The Eagles open the 2017-18 season at Wake Forest Friday at 7:30 p.m., and the contest will be broadcast live on ACC Extra and can be seen on WatchESPN.com and the Watch ESPN app.
