GS Men's Soccer Enters USC Region Rankings At No. 10

Eagles crack the Southeast Region rankings from the coaches' association for the first time since 2008

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team has cracked the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Division I Southeast Regional rankings, released on Tuesday.

The Eagles (5-4) are ranked No. 10 in the region after winning its fourth contest out of its last five with last Wednesday's 2-1 win over Jacksonville. This is the first time that Georgia Southern men's soccer has been mentioned in the USC (formerly NSCAA) regional rankings since the second week of 2008, when the Eagles were ranked No. 5 in the Southeast Region after defeating nationally-ranked Clemson.

The region is topped by Florida International (5-0-2), with Kentucky (5-2-2) ranked second and Old Dominion (6-1-2) third. New Mexico (5-2-1) is fourth, followed by NJIT (7-2-2) and Charlotte (3-2-3). Saturday's opponent for the Eagles, Georgia State (7-4), is ranked seventh, with Stetson (6-4) and Marshall (5-4-1) at eighth and ninth, respectively, ahead of the Eagles.

Saturday's matchup with the Panthers is not only a key Sun Belt Conference tilt, but also the first competition during the 2017-18 season in the Southern vs. State Rivalry Series. A point is given to the winner of each sport's matchup, while a draw would result in a half point for each school. Match time is at 7 p.m. and you can get tickets for the contest here.
