GS Swimming Drops Dual Meet At UNC Asheville Saturday

Eagles wrap up a weekend trip to North Carolina; two relay wins and a strong 100 Freestyle performance highlight the day

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The Georgia Southern women's swimming squad wrapped up its weekend trip to North Carolina with a 155-107 dual meet loss to host UNC Asheville on Saturday afternoon in Asheville, N.C.

The Eagles and the Bulldogs competed in 16 events on the afternoon, with Georgia Southern winning three of the events.

The 100 Freestyle was the strongest event of the day for the Eagles as Morgan Fleming (53.21), Randi Kiser (54.81) and Anna Rose Moore (55.50) placed 1-2-3.

The Eagles also came up with a pair of relay wins. The 200 Medley Relay team of Elizbeth Chemey, Mary James Coates, Jessica Ware and Fleming won their event with a time of 1:50.28.

The 400 Freestyle Relay team of Mackenzie Brown, Fleming, Kaylyn Thomas and Rachel Pelzek picked up a win in a time of 3:33.24.

"This has been a tough weekend for us," Head Coach Laura Thomas said about the weekend trip to North Carolina, which began on Friday at Gardner-Webb. "Both facilities did not have a warm down pool so we were unable to warm down or warm up between events. That really hurt us, particularly since we have had an extra tough week in the weight room.

"I am proud of how our girls put everything they had into their races, but it just wasn't there for us this week," Coach Thomas said. "I blame myself for putting them in such a difficult race situation for two meets in a row. However, this team did not give up and fought every time they stepped up on the blocks. This will serve us well moving forward and particularly at our conference meet."

The next competition for the Eagle swimming and diving squad will be the diving team competing at Emory on Friday and Saturday, November 3-4, against the Eagles and Wingate University. The swimming team's next competition will be at the Florida Tech Invitational on Thursday through Saturday, November 16-18.
