STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern freshman diver Katie Knight has been named the CCSA Diver of the Week, announced today by league officials.
Knight competed in her first collegiate meet on Friday, sweeping the 1-meter and 3-meter events in Georgia Southern's 150-144 dual meet win over fellow CCSA school Campbell. The Bishop, Ga., native scored a 238.72 on the 1-meter board, winning by four and a half points. On the 3-meter board, she scored a 251.25, which already puts her fifth among Eagle divers on the all-time performance chart.
"Katie is a great athlete to coach," Georgia Southern diving coach David Giambra said. "She comes ready to work each and every practice and I have been able to see growth in her diving in the short time she has been on campus. Last week, she had a couple of things 'click' for her leading up to the meet and I was excited to see that she was able to use these positive changes in competition. I was really proud of her performance on Friday and am happy for her receiving this award."
Knight is the first CCSA Weekly Award winner this season for the Eagles and she is the first Georgia Southern diving honoree since teammate Grethen Mossburg was the league's Diver of the Week on January 17, 2017. Click here for the complete CCSA Weekly Award winners.
The Georgia Southern divers will be next in action on Novmember 3-4 at Emory, while the Georgia Southern swimmers will be in action this weekend at Gardner Webb (Friday) and UNC Asheville (Saturday).
