PRACTICE REPORT: GS Women's Basketball Taking It Day By Day During Second Week

Eagles will take to the floor on Wednesday for Hoops Fan Fest; first chance for fans to see the team

STATESBORO, Ga. - Head coach Kip Drown and the GS Women's Basketball team are knee deep into preseason practice and coach Drown took a few moments on Monday to look back at the team's second week of practice, with the beginning of the 2017-18 season rapidly approaching.

"We're in an overload situation of information for them," Coach Drown said. "We've had to slow down the process a bit, to get them better at executing. But this is a normal thing that most teams around the country are going through. Particularly our younger kids, who are getting hit with it for the first time.

"I do think we're making progress on both sides of the ball," Coach Drown said. "I'm anxious to get to our first scrimmage and see how we're going to react against somebody different. But for now, we're trying to keep them focused on getting better by doing the little things. That's the point we're driving home for them."

The Eagles will be able to get a short break from the intensity of preseason practice on Wednesday with the Georgia Southern Hoops Fan Fest, which runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hanner.

"I think on Wednesday, they will be excited to play in front of our fans in a different sort of atmosphere," Coach Drown said. "It's still a six week process where we've got to take it one day at a time. Stay focused, get better on this day, move on to tomorrow. That's where we're at right now."

The Eagles will hit the floor on Tuesday, Ocotber 31st, for an exhibition contest against Fort Valley State at 6:30 p.m. at Hanner Fieldhouse. Be sure to get your season tickets to catch all of the action this season!
