STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern men's basketball team owns the ninth-longest active win streak in the country after the Eagles topped Coastal Carolina Monday, and the recognition has followed.

The Eagles moved up five spots to 13th in the latest College Insider Mid-Major Top-25 Poll, and Ike Smith was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week. In addition, as current leaders of Sun Belt Conference nearing the halfway point of the league schedule, Georgia Southern is the conference's representative in numerous NCAA Tournament bracket projections. At 7-0, the Eagles are off to their best start in league play since 1991-92, the last time GS advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Georgia Southern has also seen its RPI jump to 86, the third-highest in the Sun Belt behind UTA (55) and Arkansas State (78). The Eagles hosts UTA Feb. 20, in Hanner Fieldhouse and travels to Arkansas State Feb. 25.

Georgia Southern heads out for its Alabama road swing this week. The Eagles play at South Alabama on Saturday and at Troy Monday, Jan. 30. GS is back home Feb. 4 to take on ULM in Hanner Fieldhouse.
