NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference named Georgia Southern's
Ike Smith its men's basketball Player of the Week today.
Smith averaged 23 points, six rebounds, three assists, 1.5 blocks and a steal as Georgia Southern ran its win streak to eight games with a pair of league wins. He shot 63 percent from the field, 50 percent from 3-point range and 77 percent from the charity stripe for the week.
Smith tallied 25 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal against Appalachian State and recorded 21 points, six rebounds, four assists, three blocked shots and a steal versus Coastal Carolina. The sophomore guard has scored 20-plus points in 12 games this season, leads the Sun Belt in scoring (19.9/gm) and ranks third in field goal percentage (.504).
Georgia Southern heads out for its Alabama road swing this weekend. The Eagles play at South Alabama on Saturday and at Troy Monday, Jan. 30.
