Julianna Collett has earned a Marilynn Smith Scholarship from the Ladies Professional Golf Association Foundation (LPGA), the organization announced. Â
The Marilynn Smith Scholarship is named in honor of one of the 13 founding members of the LPGA. Â Each year, 30 high school seniors are awarded the scholarship, and the recipients each receive a $5,000 scholarship. The candidates must plan to play collegiate golf, as well as exhibit excellence in the classroom, have strong leadership skills and be actively involved in community service. Â
A native of St. Simons Island, Ga., Collett is beginning her freshman season at Georgia Southern, and the Eagles open the campaign at The Fall Invitational in Charleston, S.C., Sept. 12. Â Collett was captain of Glynn Academy High School golf team for three years and was named all-state from 2014-16 and all-region from 2013-16. A three-time Georgia High School Player of the year, she was the 2016 Individual State Champion.
Georgia Southern, which enters its second season as a program, returns five letterwinners from last year's team that finished fourth in the Sun Belt Championship.
