STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern Athletic Department announced Monday that
Nic Obey has been promoted to Director of Strength & Conditioning. In addition to assisting with football, Obey trains student-athletes in baseball, softball, volleyball and men's tennis.
"I am humbled and excited about being promoted as the Director of Strength & Conditioning," Obey said. "It is truly an honor to be a part of this university. My staff and I look forward to continuing to make a positive impact on our student-athletes."
Obey joined the Georgia Southern Strength & Conditioning staff in February 2014 after spending two years at North Dakota State University. While at NDSU, Obey worked as a Graduate Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach where he developed specialized programs for athletes in multiple sports.
Obey is a Minnesota native, and attended Des Moines Area Community College and North Dakota State University, playing baseball at both schools. Obey worked as a strength & conditioning intern for the University of Iowa football program during the spring of 2012. He received his bachelor's degree in exercise science from NDSU in 2012, and later earned his master's degree in leadership in physical education and sport from NDSU in 2014.
Obey is certified as a Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. He is also a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach, certified by USA Weightlifting.Â
