The Georgia Southern men's golf team will travel to Virginia to compete in the Primland Invitational, hosted by Wake Forest. It's the Eagles first appearance in the tournament, which debuted in the fall of 2014. It's a 10-team field, featuring host Wake Forest, and will be played on a mountain course in Virginia.
The Eagles are coming off a fourth-place outing in the Invitational at The Ocean Course in the season's first tournament Sept. 12-13. Archer Price placed sixth, and Jake Storey tied for 11th.Â
Georgia Southern made one change to the lineup as freshman Brett Barron will make his first appearance. He played as individual last week.
Quotable from coach Carter Collins
"Most of what we began the year working on was getting off the tee better and making sure our short games are sharp. We did a much better job of that at The Ocean Course and made a lot of progress in both of those areas."Â
"It's a very different course. We're going from sea-level at The Ocean Course to a mountain course at Primland. There are some adjustments we're going to have to make. We're going up a day early to go play a course in the mountains and get used to the 5-10 percent yardage gain that you get on some of your shots."
"The fundamentals of most good players are accuracy off the tee, good course management and good short game. I feel like if you take care of those three things you can play any course, adapt to it very quickly and be successful on that course. We're focused on those three keys this semester, and so far, it's paying off. We look forward to competing again at Primland in a small, elite field. This will be another good measuring stick for us as last week was."
Following the Primland, the Eagles travel to the Wolfpack Intercollegiate at NC State Oct. 3-4.
