The Series
• Georgia Southern leads the all-time series with Western Michigan 1-0 after beating the Broncos 43-17 last year in Statesboro.
•
Matt Breida carried the ball 11 times for 176 yards and four touchdowns while
Favian Upshaw ran it 16 times for 114 yards. The Eagles completed just one pass in the game and ran for 413 yards.
• This will be Georgia Southern's first game ever played in the state of Michigan and just the second against a team from the state of Michigan (WMU, 2015).
Against the MAC
• Georgia Southern has played just two games all-time against any of the 12 teams in the MAC and they came last year as GS downed WMU, 43-17, at in Statesboro and then breezed by Bowling Green 58-27 in the GoDaddy Bowl.
• GS has two games against MAC teams on future schedules: at Kent State in 2018 at home against the Golden Flashes in 2019.
Battle of Young Coaches
• Saturday's game will be a battle between two of the youngest head coaches in the FBS as Georgia Southern's
Tyson Summers and Western Michigan's P.J. Fleck face off.Â
• Summers is the third-youngest FBS head coach at 36 years old while Fleck is the second-youngest at 35. Only Mike Norvell (34; Memphis) is younger than the two.
Possession Time Monsters
• Western Michigan and Georgia Southern were among the nation's best in time of possession last year with the Broncos averaging 34:33 minutes of possession each game, second-best in the FBS. Georgia Southern averaged 33:59 per game, which was fourth in the nation in 2015. This year, GS is ranked fifth while WMU is ranked sixth in the country.
• In last year's game, WMU won the possession battle 30:39 to 29:21, but the Eagles won the game 43-17.
Undefeated Teams Match Up
• The Georgia Southern/Western Michigan game is one of six FBS games this weekend that features a pair of undefeated teams. The others are: Clemson/GT; Wisconsin/Michigan St; Florida/Tennessee; Arkansas/Texas A&M; and Wake Forest/Indiana.
• There are 37 undefeated teams in the FBS heading into week 4 and two of them will play Saturday in Kalamazoo.
