Georgia Southern plays its 2016 home opener as the Eagles host the Bash in the Boro in Hanner Fieldhouse Sept. 1-2. Charleston Southern, The Citadel, Jacksonville State, Savannah State and the Eagles will play 10 matches in two days.
The Eagles own an all-time combined record of 55-3 against teams in this week's tourney (8-3 vs. Charleston Southern, 17-0 vs. Savannah State, 1-0 vs. Jacksonville State and 29-0 vs. The Citadel).
Georgia Southern is coming off a tough weekend at the Penn State Classic in which the Eagles went 0-3 against three Power 5 Conference opponents, including two that were ranked.
Senior libero Alex Beecher averaged 4.67 digs per set and was named to the all-tournament team. Already the school's all-time leader in digs, she is 211 from collecting 2,000 for her career.
Megan Chevalier tallied 20 kills and five blocks on the weekend and registered 11 kills and five blocks against West Virginia. The redshirt junior surpassed the 500 kill mark for her career.
Junior Cathrine Murray is 14 kills away from 500 for her career.
The Eagles host another tournament in Hanner Fieldhouse next weekend. Georgia Southern welcomes Buffalo, South Carolina and Wake Forest to Statesboro for the SpringHill Suites Invitational.
