Top Players Returning
With 46 returning and 28 lost lettermen, the Ragin' Cajuns are looking for a better finish than last season. Leading the rushing game for the Cajuns will be senior running back Elijah McGuire (12 GP, 209-1047 yds, 5.0 avg, 13 TDs). McGuire was the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year, starting the 2015 season on the Walter Camp watch list. Getting much of the playing time as both a starter and a back-up, senior quarterback Jalen Nixon (11 GP, 828 yds, 7 TDs-5 INTs, 53.5 pct) will look to make his mark in his final season after fellow quarterback Brooks Haack transferred. Nixon finished second in passing behind Haack, and now has to lead the offense outside of the two quarterback system. Giving him a target is senior receiver Al Riles (11 GP, 46-477 yds, 10.4 avg, 4 TDs). Riles finished with the second-most receptions on the team last season, leading all returning receivers. The defense will look to senior defensive back Savion Brown (12 GP, 43 total tackles, 3 INTs, 1 FR) and junior defensive back Tracy Walker (12 GP, 74 total tackles, 1 INT, 1 FF) to lead the way. Brown led the team in interceptions, taking one back for a touchdown. Walker finished second on the team in tackles, leading returning defenders.
