Top Players Returning
Coming off an undefeated conference season in 2015 for sole possession of the championship, the Red Wolves will return 54 players after losing 21 lettermen. Arkansas State looks for a new leader at quarterback after Fredi Knighten graduated and two potential starters transferred. To help out in the backfield, sophomore running back Warren Wand (13 GP, 117-709 yds, 6.4 avg, 9 TDs) looks to make a difference after having a freshman year rushing for the second-most yards on the team. Junior receiver Dijon Paschal (13 GP, 28-541 yds, 19.3 avg, 3 TDs) returns after having the third-most receptions on the team, the most by any returning player. Pascal also finished with the second-most receiving yards last season. Senior defensive back Cody Brown (13 GP, 65 total tackles, 3 INTs) led returning defenders in interceptions last season, taking one back for a touchdown. Junior linebacker Khari Lain (13 GP, 81 total tackles, 1 INT, 1 FR) led the team in tackles last year for the Red Wolves. Joining Lain as a senior linebacker is Xavier Woodson-Luster (10 GP, 71 total tackles, 2 INTs, 2 FF). Luster finished second in tackles behind Lain.
Series History
Georgia Southern leads the series 1-0. Last played, GS won 48-21 in Tacoma, Washington, in the 1986 NCAA D-1 AA National Championship. This season marks 30 years since the 1986 title game.
