STATESBORO, Ga. – The Georgia Southern men's golf team finished the 2015-16 academic year with a 3.34 grade point average, the highest of the Eagle male sports programs.
Crawford Simmons was named to the Georgia Southern President's List for posting a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the spring, while
Cody O'Toole and
Archer Price were named to the Dean's List (3.5-3.99 GPA).
Andrew Klasing,
Henry Mabbett,
Jake Storey and
Jonas Vaisanen were named to the Honor Roll (3.0-3.49 GPA). It's the first GPA award for the men's golf team and the highest in program history.
"Maintaining a high standard of excellence in academics and athletics is very important to our program and, I'm very appreciative of the hard work these guys put in," said men's golf coach
Carter Collins. "The credit should not only go to the effort of the student-athletes on this team but also to
Reggie Simpkins and his Student-Athlete Services staff. They do an outstanding job. We have tremendous academic resources at Georgia Southern, and I believe our accomplishments in the classroom are a direct reflection of that."
As a department, Georgia Southern student-athletes earned a cumulative 3.01 GPA for the 2015-2016 academic year, marking the first time in Georgia Southern athletic history that the student-athletes reached the mark. This spring, the combined GPA was 3.04, the second-highest spring GPA in the history of athletics only to follow spring 2015 when a 3.05 GPA was earned.
Two hundred and twenty-seven student-athletes made the Honor Roll this spring, which accounts for 64 percent of the department. Thirty-eight of those student-athletes posted a 4.0 GPA to earn a spot on the President's List, while 82 made the Dean's List with a GPA of 3.5-3.99.
