STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern volleyball coach Dustin Wood announced today that Terry Hutchinson has joined his staff as an assistant coach.

Hutchinson has spent the last two seasons as the assistant coach for Elizabethtown College, and the season prior with Franklin and Marshall College. He brings years of experience as both a player and a coach from all levels of the sport to Statesboro.

"I am excited to announce that Terry Hutchinson (Hutch) is our new assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for our volleyball program," said Wood. "I have known Hutch for many years and know he will have an immediate impact on our players, staff, and future players that come through this program. He is an outstanding recruiter who will help us continue to recruit great volleyball players with high standard of academics and character. He will have a lot of defensive responsibilities with our blocking schemes with game preparation and scouting reports. Hutch will be training the middles mainly in practice and will help develop all of our players. He already knows our system and will hit the ground running."

Hutchinson attended East Stroudsburg University, helping lead his team to consecutive appearances in the EIVA Division I Final Four, both times bowing out to Penn State. He finished the 1995 and 1996 seasons nationally-ranked in blocking and was named All-EIVA Division I in 1996.

In the summer of 1995, he was selected to the US Olympic Festival, which was part of the US National Team training program. During the Festival Games, he helped his East team win the gold medal.

Hutchinson began coaching in 2003 with the Norlanco Girls' Volleyball Club and has since coached for Yorktowne and Spooky Nook volleyball clubs. He has also spent four years as the head varsity coach at Manheim Township High School and has seven years of experience as a certified strength and speed/agility coach.

A 1993 graduate of Warwick High School, he was selected to the Lancaster/Lebanon League All-Star team twice, as well as All-District III and all-state as a senior. He was also selected for the East vs. West All-State All-Star game.

Georgia Southern returns five starters and All-Sun Belt libero Alex Beecher to the 2016 roster. The Eagles open the campaign Aug. 26 against North Carolina at the Penn State Classic.
