Jordan Wren Selected in 2016 MLB Draft

Junior outfielder picked in the 36th round by the Boston Red Sox

STATESBORO, Ga. - One member of the Georgia Southern baseball team had his name called in the 2016 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, and that man was Jordan Wren. The junior from Peachtree City, Georgia, was picked in the 36th round with the 1,078th overall pick by the Boston Red Sox.

In his first season with the Eagles, Wren hit .285 while starting 49 games in right field. He drove in 33 runs and scored 29 of his own while posting nine extra base hits. He hit three home runs on the season including a long ball against Little Rock in the opening game of the 2016 Sun Belt Tournament.

Wren closed the season with a four-game hit streak to earn All-Sun Belt Tournament honors as the Eagles reached the championship game against UL Lafayette.

Wren transferred to Georgia Southern for the 2016 season after a season at Gordon Community College. He played his freshman season at Samford.
