2016 Schedule
STATESBORO, Ga. – Two home tournaments in the friendly confines of Hanner Fieldhouse, a trip to the Penn State Classic and a 16-match Sun Belt Conference slate highlight the 2016 Georgia Southern volleyball schedule, announced today by coach
Dustin Wood.
"We are excited about our 2016 schedule," Wood said. "Our non-conference schedule will provide us great competition and experience in getting ready for conference play, and we're happy to be hosting two home tournaments in Hanner Fieldhouse." Â
Jacksonville State, Charleston Southern, Savannah State and The Citadel make up the field for the Bash in the Boro, which features 10 matches in Hanner Fieldhouse Sept, 1-2. Buffalo, Wake Forest and South Carolina will play in the SpringHill Suites Invitational, which totals six matches Sept. 9-10.
Georgia Southern opens the campaign at the prestigious Penn State Classic Aug. 26-27. The field has two teams that finished the 2015 season in the AVCA top-25 in Penn State (No. 9) and North Carolina (No. 25). Penn State has won six of the last nine national titles, and the Eagles also take on Big 12 opponent West Virginia in the tournament.
The Eagles travel to the Crimson-White Tournament Sept. 16-17 before opening its 16-match Sun Belt Conference schedule in Louisiana against ULM Sept. 23.Â
Georgia Southern takes on Appalachian State, league newcomer Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, South Alabama and Troy twice in a home-and-home series. The Eagles face ULM, UL Lafayette on the road and Arkansas State, Little Rock, UT Arlington and Texas State at home. The Sun Belt Tournament will be contested Nov. 18-20 in Arlington, Texas.
