STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Men's Basketball, Men's Soccer, and Men's Tennis teams joined Athletics Director Tom Kleinlein as well as Associate Athletics Directors Tracy Ham and Gleen Hart to participate in the "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event Thursday on campus.
The event is designed to help raise awareness about sexual violence against women.
The teams and administrators donned high-heel shoes and walked a mile across campus to show their support for the cause. The walk started at the rotunda at the Russell Union. This event was co-sponsored by the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), University Wellness Program, Health Services, the Multicultural Student Center, and University Housing.
Frank Baird created Walk a Mile in Her Shoes in 2001 and the event has helped raise millions of dollars for local rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters and sexual violence education, prevention and remediation programs.
All proceeds from Thursday's event will benefit the Statesboro Regional Sexual Assault Center. More information can be found on the University Wellness page of GeorgiaSouthern.edu.
