STATESBORO, Ga.- On Wednesday, the Georgia Southern men's tennis team heads to Kennesaw, Georgia to compete against a familiar opponent—Kennesaw State. KSU was one of the four teams that participated in the Georgia Southern Championships tournament in October, where they dominated doubles play and sent two of their doubles tandems to the championship.

"We are looking forward to playing Kennesaw State, because it will be a competitive match," head coach Sander Koning said. "I have been following them and they are having a good season."

The Owls are 8-3 on the season and 4-1 at their home site—the Dr. Betty L. Siegel Center. However, the Eagles boast a 9-5 record of their own and have outplayed three of KSU's players so far this season. Andre Johnson beat Jorge Wilson 7-5, 6-4 and Evan Pelavin topped Corey Smith 6-3, 6-4 both at Georgia Southern's tournament. At the ITA Regionals in Gainsville, Florida, Rise Lanne went up against Alejandro Valencia and came out victorious in straight sets.

But for the past two matches, Georgia Southern has fallen short, losing to Florida Gulf Coast and UNCG.

"We have lost some tight matches this season and I think this match will be another close one," Koning said. "The guys should see it as another good opportunity to grow as students of the game. As long as we keep giving ourselves opportunities I am confident that we will do well."
