KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Georgia Southern women's golf team shot a 316 in the second round of the Edwin Watts Kiawah Island Spring Classic Monday and fell to 24th in the team standings.
Tabbed as the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the 2016 edition of the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic features 41 teams in the field and is being played on two courses for the three-day, 54-hole tournament – Osprey Point and Oak Point. After today's round, the top-20 teams will play for the championship at Osprey Point during the final round, and the Eagles will compete for a flight championship at Oak Point.
Georgia Southern (+46), which played Osprey Point today, was four strokes back of Southern Miss (+42) and Boston U, which are tied for 20th. Coastal Carolina (+13) shot a 298 to move into a tie for first with tournament host College of Charleston.
Ansley Bowman led the Eagles with a 77 today, and
Taylor Thompson carded a 78.
Iben Hvass shot a 79,
Yeji Shin posted an 82 and
Ariana Macioce shot an 83.
The story Bowman finished her front nine with four straight pars and shot 1-under on her final three holes. Thompson led the team with two birdies on the day and started her round 1-under through her first three holes. She finished strong as well by going 1-under on her final three holes. Hvass posted par on six straight holes on her front nine and made the turn at 2-over, and Macioce finished her round with five straight pars. Shin was even on the final four holes of her first nine and logged four pars on her final nine.

Next upThe Eagles play on the Oak Point course tomorrow and tee off at 8:45 a.m. in a shotgun start. Georgia Southern is paired with Jacksonville, Oral Roberts and Boston U.
