Track and Field Sees Success at Samford Open

Multiple Eagles post career-bests in Birmingham, Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Just a little over a week before the Sun Belt Conference Championships, the Georgia Southern track and field team saw success at the same venue in Birmingham, Alabama at the two-day Samford Open. Three jumpers placed in the top ten in their respective events this weekend. Jasmin Walker and Nia Hill placed third and fourth respectively in the long jump, while Keyanna Harris took sixth in the high jump.
"This was a good meet for us; it prepared us for the indoor conference championship coming up next week," head coach Kelly Carter said. "We had a lot of good performances, and I'm very excited about what's next to come."
In the shot put, Jamellia Owens' 12.58m throw was good for ninth and Kelsey Arnold's weight throw of 17.69m stole fourth in the meet and seventh in the Sun Belt.
The Blue and White dominated the 5000m run, with Eagles placing in sixth, seventh and 10th all with career-bests. Rebecca Parker led the pack with a time of 18:33.75. Bianca Loza and Ashton Lord followed suit with their top-10 finishes.
UP NEXT
The Eagles head back to the same place next Monday and Tuesday for the Sun Belt Indoor Championships.
