GS: GAME NOTES (PDF)

The Series
• Georgia Southern and Troy have met 15 times on the gridiron with the Trojans holding a 10-5 lead in the series that dates back to 1934, although that number is a little misleading.

• Since Georgia Southern re-started its football program for the 1982 season, the Eagles are 5-2 against Troy, including 2-1 at Allen E. Paulson Stadium.

• The Eagles are on a three-game winning streak against the Trojans. They beat them 24-21 in the 1995 I-AA Playoffs on the road, beat them 42-10 in 2014 at Paulson Stadium and won 45-10 last year on the road.

•  The two teams played every year from 1935-1941 with the Trojans winning all eight contests.

Senior Day
• Twenty-four players will be recognized before Saturday's game for their contributions to the program. The ceremony will start at 11:30 a.m. on the field.

• Over the past four seasons, this group has seen the transformation of the program as it has gone from the FCS to bowl champions.

• These players have been a part of 29 wins, a league title and a bowl win. They made history with Georgia Southern's first win over an BCS program in 2013, the 2014 Sun Belt Conference championship and again last year by becoming bowl eligible for the first time. They did it all under three different head coaches during their career.

• The Eagles are 26-5 in designated "Senior" games and have won six of the past seven such contests.

• The 24 seniors are: #45 Jake Abraham, #92 Jonathan Battle Jr., #36 Matt Breida, #32 William Bussey Jr., #18 Ken Butler Jr., #9 Montay Crockett, #56 Bernard Dawson, #99 Jay Ellison, #4 Kevin Ellison, #72 Sean Gaddy, #27 Ironhead Gallon, #42 Nardo Govan, #94 Tre Griffin, #10 Vegas Harley, #12 BJ Johnson III, #52 Jamal Johnson, #5 Darius Jones Jr., #9 Younghoe Koo, #60 Andy Kwon, #71 Max Magaña, #39 Rayquan Sam, #88 Nick Sewak, #13 Favian Upshaw,#83 Keigan Williams.

Toys For Tots
• The athletics department will work with UPD on collecting toys for Toys for Tots at the football game this Saturday. We are asking fans to donate new, unwrapped toys for children in need this holiday season.

Kickin' Koo
• Senior kicker Younghoe Koo missed a 54-yard field goal at the end of the first half at Ole Miss to break his streak of made field goals at 14. His 14 straight makes is a school record for consecutive field goals made in a season over previous record-holder Tim Foley's (12 set in 1985).

• Koo has five makes of 40 yards or more, including a 53-yarder at Arkansas State. For his career, he has eight made field goals of 40 yards or longer.

• The Lou Groza Award finalist is 19-for-20 on the season and his field goal percentage is No. 2 in the country. He is the first Georgia Southern player to be a national finalist for an award since the Eagles joined the FBS in 2014. The last national award winner Georgia Southern had was in 2007 when senior quarterback Jayson Foster won the Walter Payton Award, an honor recognizing him as the most outstanding I-AA player in the nation.

• With his 43-yard field goal at the end of the half against Georgia State, Koo has 19 made kicks this season to tie Adrian Mora's mark for single-season made field goals set in 2010.

Battle of Young Coaches
• Saturday's contest will be a battle between two of the youngest head coaches in the FBS as Georgia Southern's Tyson Summers and Troy's Neal Brown face off.

• Summers is the third-youngest FBS head coach at 36 years old while Brown is the fourth-youngest at exactly one month older than Summers. Only Mike Norvell (35; Memphis) and P.J. Fleck (36; Western Michigan) are younger.

This and That ...
• Head coach Tyson Summers was a graduate assistant at Troy in 2004 while defensive backs coach Jeremy Rowell spent 15 seasons at Troy, including the final six as the Trojans' defensive coordinator. Director of Football Administration Steve Dennis was the athletics director at Troy for seven years.

• In the modern era ... Georgia Southern is 17-8 in the modern era against teams from the state of Alabama and is 201-51-1 all-time playing in the state of Georgia. The Eagles are 32-12 all-time in the month of December and 310-123-1 all-time on Saturdays.

• In games following a full open week, GS is 28-10. This will be the Eagles' first game after an off week this season.

• Jonathan Battle Jr. blocked his second kick of the season when he blocked a PAT in the first quarter of the Georgia State game. Jay Bowdry blocked a field goal in the second quarter. The blocked kicks were the Eagles' sixth and seventh blocked kicked of the season, respectively (3 punt, 3 FG, 1 PAT), the most for them since 2008 when they also blocked seven kicks.
