The Series
• Georgia Southern and Ole Miss will be meeting in football for the first time.
Against the SEC
• Georgia Southern is 1-10 all-time against current SEC schools : 0-1 vs. Alabama; 0-1 vs. Auburn; 1-2 vs. Florida; and 0-6 vs. Georgia.
• GS is slated to open the 2017 at Auburn and also has LSU on its 2019 schedule.
Recently Against the Power 5
• The Eagles have fared pretty well against Power 5 teams of late, even pulling off a shocker at Florida to end the 2013 season.
• Four of the Eagles' last six games against Power 5 schools have been decided by six points or less: a six-point win at Florida (2013), a one-point loss at NCSU (2014), a four-point loss at GT (2014), and a six-point loss in OT at Georgia (2015).
• Georgia Southern has several Power 5 teams on its future schedules, including: Auburn and Indiana in 2017, Clemson in 2018, and LSU and Minnesota in 2019.
Kickin' Koo
• Senior place-kicker
Younghoe Koo kicked a field goal against Appalachian State last week to run his streak of made field goals to 14. His 14 straight extends his school record for consecutive field goals made in a season, distancing himself from Tim Foley's streak of 12 set in 1985, which was the previous record. The school record for consecutive field goals made is 19, set by Foley. Foley made his last 12 field goals of 1985 and the first seven of 1986.
• Koo is one of three FBS kickers who have not missed a field goal and he's made the most of those three (14). Tyler Durbin (Ohio St.) is 11 for 11 and Rigoberto Sanchez of Hawaii has made all eight of his kicks.
• Koo (53-yarder at Arkansas State) and Sanchez (55-yarder at Michigan) are the only two of them to connect on a 50-yard field goal. Koo also has two 40-yarders.
Honors For Eligwe
• Junior linebacker
Ukeme Eligwe was named the Sun Belt Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Appalachian State, as announced Monday morning.
• Eligwe tallied a career-high 12 tackles (eight solo), two pass breakups, a forced fumble and returned a fumble 90 yards for a touchdown against the Mountaineers. It was the second-longest fumble return in school history (97 yards, Rodney Oglesby, vs. Valdosta State, 9/1/90) and was the first fumble return for a touchdown for an Eagle since
Caleb Williams returned a fumble 62 yards at Georgia last year.
