GEORGIA TECH NOTES
• The Eagles' 25-point comeback in the 2014 game is the largest since joining the FBS. GS trailed 35-10 in the third quarter and took a 38-35 lead before falling 42-38. The biggest comeback in school history is 28 points against Western Carolina in 2008. The Eagles trailed 31-3 with 14:52 left in the fourth quarter and eventually won 38-31 in overtime.
• Georgia Tech defensive lineman Anree Saint-Amour is the younger brother of Manrey Saint-Amour, who started four years on offensive line at Georgia Southern.
• In the 2014 meeting, the two teams combined for 1,064 yards of total offense. Georgia Tech put up 536 yards while the Eagles recorded 528 yards. All but two players who accounted for 18 of those yards from that game are slated to suit up Saturday.
• All three quarterbacks who played in that 2014 game will suit up Saturday:
Kevin Ellison and
Favian Upshaw for GS and Justin Thomas for GT.
THE DYNAMIC DUO
• When counting only his FBS yards,
Kevin Ellison passed the 2,000-yard rushing mark against Western Michigan, joining Taysom Hill of BYU as the only active QBs to rush for that many yards. His freshman year he ran for 886 yards while the Eagles were still in the FCS.
• Ellison was joined in Week 1 by
Favian Upshaw in the 1,000 yard club. They're the only active quarterback teammates to both rush for over 1,000 yards in their career.
• Ellison (2,942) and Upshaw (1,222) have combined to run for 4,164 yards in their career. This leads FBS QB duos.
RUNNING TOWARD SUCCESS
• Since joining the FBS in 2014, the Eagles are 21-4 when outrushing their opponents, 0-5 when being outrushed and 0-0 when the rushing total is even.
• Since 2014, GS is 21-1 when rushing for 300 yards or more. The Eagles are 13-0 when rushing for 400 yards or more, 4-0 when rushing for 500 yards or more and 1-0 when rushing for 600 yards or more.
• The Eagles are 19-3 when rushing 50 times or more in a game under over the past two-plus seasons.
• Additionally, GS is 18-5 when holding the time of possession battle advantage in that span.
