Final results

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Iben Hvass shot a 75, Lauren Coe recorded a 76 and the Georgia Southern women's golf team placed fourth at the Terrier Intercollegiate Tuesday at the Country Club of Spartanburg.

Hvass finished the 36-hole tournament with a 147 (+3) to place second in the individual standings, a stroke behind medalist Natalia Villavicencio (+2) of Western Carolina. It's the best individual finish in the two-year history of the GS program.

Winthrop (+33) shot 300 as a team, the lowest round of the day, to move up the leaderboard and win the tournament by a stroke over Western Carolina (+34). The Eagles (+37) finished two strokes behind Appalachian State (+35) in third and three strokes ahead of host Wofford (+40) in fifth.

Ansley Bowman shot an 82 today and tied for 17th for her best career finish, and Coe tied for 21st for her second-best outing as an Eagle.  Ariana Macioce and individual Julianna Collett each shot 80 today, and Ella Ofstedahl carded an 87.

The story
After three straight bogeys on holes 9-11, Hvass turned up the heat on Villavicencio by finishing her round with seven straight pars. Villavicencio entered the day with a two-stroke lead, and both players were 3-over through 12 holes. While Hvass went on her run of pars, Villavicencio birdied hole 14 to open a three-stroke advantage and held off Hvass despite bogeying her final two holes.

Coe, who teed off on hole 4, birdied hole 6 and was 1-under after three. The senior bogeyed three in a row heading into the turn but recovered nicely and parred every hole on the back nine.

Quotable from coach Emily Kuhfeld
"Spartanburg Country Club was a great test of golf, and unfortunately, it wasn't the ending to our fall tournament season that we had envisioned. We have a special group of girls, and they care so much about the program. Our fall season has been one to learn from with memorable individual performances here and there, especially Iben's two top-3 finishes."

Next up for the Eagles
It was the final tournament of the fall season for the Eagles. Georgia Southern opens the spring campaign at the Texas State Invitational Feb. 13-14.
