Duo trying to impress NFL scouts
STATESBORO, Ga. - Former Georgia Southern football players Antwione Williams and Antonio Glover will showcase their talents to NFL scouts this weekend at a pair of all-star games on both sides of the country. Williams, from Lovejoy, Georgia, will participate in the 91st East-West Shrine Bowl while Glover, from Atlanta, will play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
After a week of practices, the East-West Shrine Bowl will culminate on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 4 p.m. inside Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. The game will be broadcast live on NFL Network. The game can also be heard on Sirius Channel 136, XM Channel 201 and SiriusXM Channel 88.
Williams will wear his familiar No. 37 jersey for the East squad. A two-time honorable mention All-Sun Belt selection, Williams led the team in 2015 with 107 tackles (48u, 59a), including 10.5 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks, a team-high four forced fumbles, two quarterback hurries and three pass breakups.
"I'm so proud to be able to represent my school and family at the Shrine Bowl," Williams said from Florida. "Preparing for the NFL is an extremely hard thing, but it's a four-month interview to show the world what Eagle Nation is made of and how tough and blue collar we are. I will represent Georgia Southern well!"
The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl will also take place Jan. 23 and will be played at StubHub Center on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills. The fifth-annual NFLPA Collegiate Bowl – the only game for the players, by the players – is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff and will air nationally on ESPN2. In addition, American and National Team practices on Jan. 20 and 21 will be televised live on ESPNU. The game and practices will also be available via WatchESPN.
Glover will suit up for the National squad and will wear No. 36. An All-Sun Belt First-Team selection, Glover started all 13 games at strong safety for the Eagles this past season, tying the school record with six interceptions. He finished the season with 56 total tackles (30u, 26a) with 2.0 tackles for a loss of 2 yards, one fumble recovery, three pass breakups and six interceptions.
