STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern volleyball coach Dustin Wood announced today that Kendra Koetter (Marietta, Ga./Wesleyan School) and Casey McColl (Tampa, Fla./Bishop McLaughlin) will attend Georgia Southern and compete for the Eagles, beginning in the 2015 season.
Kendra Koetter, 5-8, S/DS, Marietta, Ga./Wesleyan School/A5 18 Club Team
Three-time all-state, all-area and All-Gwinnett County selection at Wesleyan… A Gwinnett Super Six selection the last two seasons and played in Senior All-Star match… Named to Maxpreps Freshman 59 AVCA Phenom List and Sophomore 79 Honorable Mention… Recorded 2,430 assists, 329 kills, 180 aces, 672 digs and 45 blocks at Wesleyan… Fourth in career ace percentage and third in assists… Led squad to state championship in 2013… Also competed in track… Father, Dirk, is the offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Bucs.
Wood on Koetter: "Kendra comes to Statesboro from A5 out of Atlanta. Anytime you get a setter who understands the game it makes for an easier transition to the collegiate game. She is a very diverse setter who can do many different things to help our program. She comes from a coaching background and will be a great kid in the gym who will do anything for the good of the team. She plays great defense and does the intangible things so well. She will be an asset to have."
Casey McColl, 5-5, DS, Tampa, Fla./Bishop McLaughlin/No Name Volleyball Club
Lettered four years for coach Douglas Chinchar at Bishop McLaughlin… Owns school record for digs in a game (41), digs in a season (352) and digs in a career (1,279)… Team MVP in 2012, 2013 and 2014… Had 323 digs in her senior season… Both of her coaches, Douglas and Sarah Chinchar, played and coached Division I volleyball… Also lettered in tennis.
Wood on McColl: "Casey comes to us from No Name Volleyball Club out of Tampa. She is a hard-nosed defender who gets to many balls. I like her technique and her attitude as a defender. She always wants the ball in serve receive and on the defensive side, and you can't teach that in a player. She is a natural leader who will help spark our gym level. I am anxious to see what her production can be to help our program in her first year. She will be one to watch next year and in the future."
The duo joins Hannah Braun (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Highlands Ranch), Joscelin Morrow (Baiting Hollow, N.Y./Riverhead), Lauren Reichard (York, Pa./Eastern York) and Stephanie Spencer (North Canton, Ohio/Jackson) in the Eagles' freshman class.
Georgia Southern returns four starters and 11 letterwinners from the 2014 team.
