Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech Schedule Football Game for 2016

Game at Grant Field yielded 2014 season’s highest single-game attendance for Yellow Jackets

ATLANTA, Ga. – Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech have contractually agreed to extend the series between the two schools for another game with the contest set for Atlanta on November 19, 2016. The in-state rival programs met for the first time on the football field earlier this year as more than 12,000 Eagle fans attended the thrilling game at Grant Field. The 53,173 attendance was the highest for the Yellow Jackets this season and that figure was the highest for a non-conference, non-Georgia game since 2006 against Notre Dame.
"Playing a high-quality opponent within just a few hours of campus benefits both programs and scheduling this game is a win-win situation," said Georgia Southern Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein. "For us, with such a large number of our alumni living in the Atlanta area, we have the opportunity to bring their team to them."
Two other FBS games have already been locked in for 2016. An October 8, 2016, game at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, announced earlier this year, sets up the first-ever meeting between the Eagles and Ole Miss. A September return trip to Western Michigan is also on the 2016 slate.
The 2015 season opens with the Eagles traveling to West Virginia for a September 5th game and playing host to Western Michigan, the first non-conference FBS opponent to visit Allen E. Paulson Stadium, the following week. A final non-conference game at Georgia is scheduled for November 21st.
