STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern finalized its 2014 non-conference football schedule with road dates at N.C. State, Georgia Tech and Navy and a home contest against Savannah State.
"With our move to FBS and the Sun Belt, this first schedule immediately allows us to showcase the University and our program as well as provide great travel experiences for our fans," said Georgia Southern Director of Athletics Tom Kleinlein.
The 2014 schedule opens on Aug. 30 at N.C. State, the first meeting between the two schools, and continues on Sept. 6 with the home opener. Savannah State will be the Eagles first home opponent in the FBS era and the first team to help GSU christen a newly-expanded Allen E. Paulson Stadium.
The Eagles will be back on the road the following week at Georgia Tech on Sept. 13 and will play their final game of the regular season at Navy on Nov. 15.
Savannah State replaces previously announced FCS opponent Duquesne, who did not meet the required 90 percent grant-in-aids over a rolling two-year period. The remaining eight games of the 2014 schedule will be released by the Sun Belt Conference office at a later date.
Georgia Southern Athletics provides up-to-date information on all its sports through its official website, GSEagles.com, through social media channels facebook.com/GSAthletics and twitter.com/GSAthletics, and its "Eagles GATA" mobile app for Android and iOS.
