Team turns right around to travel to Utah this weekend
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. - The Georgia Southern men's golf team led wire-to-wire and held off a strong charge from North Alabama late to take home the Golfweek Fall Challenge at the True Blue Club in South Carolina to open the 2025-26 campaign in strong fashion. Additionally, a pair of transfer newcomers took home top-five honors with Harrison Sewell winning his first collegiate tournament as the team posted strong numbers all three days.
The Eagles started the tournament with a 276 team score (-12) with Morgan Blythe, Edouard Cereto and Sewell all shooting four-under-par 68 to lead the way. On Monday, Sewell shot a 66 (-6) to lead the way while freshman Trace Carter (68; individual), Elijah Zamarron (69; individual) and Blythe (69) all went low. In Tuesday's final round, Sewell birdied two of the final five holes, including one on the 17th hole, to shoot a 68 to lead the way and claim the individual title. Blythe and Thomas Horne both shot 69s while Parker Claxton finished a strong opening event with a 70.
For Sewell, a transfer from Midland College who was a 2025 NJCAA Division I PING Second-Team All-American and the 2025 NJCAA Division I Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award Runner-Up, it was his first NCAA event. He becomes the 32nd different Eagle in the program's storied history to win an individual tournament title, capturing the 70th win overall. His 202 is tied for the eighth-lowest three-round tournament title in school history.
Blythe, a transfer from Miami of Ohio and like Sewell hails from Newcastle, England, was strong in his first tournament for the Eagles, finishing tied for four with a 206 (-10). Zamarron tied for 23rd with a 212 (-4), Claxton tied for 28th with a 213 (-3), Carter placed 36th with a 214 (-2), Cereto finished tied for 43rd with an even-par 216 and Horne tied for 46th with a 217 (+1).
As a team, the Eagles played the Par 3s at -2, tied for the second-best total in the field, the Par 4s at -3 (2nd best) and the Par 5s at -21 (fourth best). In total, Georgia Southern posted 173 pars (third best) and 64 birdies (second best). Sewell tied for tops in the tournament with 18 birdies while Zamarron was fourth with 16. Blythe tied for fourth with 38 pars.
