STATESBORO– Men's basketball has added Northern Illinois transfer forward Tsvet Sotirov to the squad for the 2025-26 season.
Sotirov joins the Eagles after a redshirt year at Saint Louis and one season with the Huskies, who visited Statesboro in November.
In 27 games and 14 starts at NIU, Sotirov averaged 5.4 points and 2.4 rebounds, shooting at a 36.8 percent clip from the field and 34.8 percent (39-112) from beyond the three-point line. He scored in double digits six times, with four of those performances coming in the final seven games of the season.
On Feb. 22 against Eastern Michigan, Sotirov scored a career-high 17 points on 6-7 shooting, knocking down a career-best five threes in the contest. He had five games with at least five rebounds, including a career-high eight in a near-double-double against Western Michigan on Mar. 1, scoring 10 points.
Sotirov played high school basketball at Rolling Meadows, right outside Chicago. He was named all-conference and all-area for the Mustangs in 2022-23.
At the age of eight, the forward moved to Chicago from Bulgaria. His sister, Pamela Decheva, played college basketball at South Carolina and Winthrop, and grandmother, Vanya Voynova, is in the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame (2001) and FIBA Hall of Fame (2007). She collected one gold, three silver and two bronze medals at the European Championships as a member of Bulgarian national teams in the 1950s and also helped Bulgaria claim a bronze medal at the 1964 World Championships.
Sotirov adds another forward to the incoming transfer class and will look to continue his success at Georgia Southern.
