Tori Watts Claims SoCon Smallbore title

Eagles take fourth straight team crown

NCAA SCORECARD

STATESBORO -
Behind a strong team effort across the board, the Georgia Southern rifle team posted a 2,334 in smallbore and Tori Watts took gold in the individual on the opening day of the 2025 Southern Conference Rifle Championships, being held at the Shooting Sports Education Center.

In the qualifier, Bremen Butler paced the Eagles with a 588 to place first, followed closely by Emme Walrath's 586 which took second place. Ella Goldfaden and Emma Pohlmann both posted a 580, but Goldfaden had one more center shot to claim third. Tori Watts' 575 was good for sixth place to assure all five Eagles made the finals. The mark of 2,334 gave the Eagles their fifth straight conference smallbore title.

With their scores, all five advanced to the finals where the Eagles made up over half the field. In the finals, the Eagles dominated and finished 1-5. Goldfaden placed fifth, followed by Walrath in fourth and Butler in third. On the final shot, Pohlmann made up some ground, but it wasn't enough as Watts edged her out by .1 to keep Pohlmann from repeating.

It marks the fourth straight year a Georgia Southern athlete has won the smallbore as Erin Ballard won in 2022, Amy Visconti won in 2023 and Pohlmann won last year.

The eight teams will compete in the air rifle discipline on Sunday and the two team scores will be added up to determine the 2025 SoCon Champs. The Eagles hold a 62-point lead going into Sunday's action.
