PREVIEW: Eagles Return Home to Face Houston Christian Saturday

STATESBORO - Georgia Southern men's basketball (3-5) returns to the friendly confines of the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon, hosting Houston Christian (4-2). Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

THE OPENING TIP

  • Georgia Southern men's basketball finally returns to the friendly confines of the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center after a grueling road stretch, which saw the Eagles fall to 3-5 on the season and spend nearly two weeks away from Statesboro.
  • The Eagles are 10-3 all-time at the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center, after splitting time between Hanner Fieldhouse and The Hill last season. The Blue and White are 2-0 in 2025-26 at The Hill and look to continue to make it one of the toughest venues in the Sun Belt Conference.
  • Graduate guard Tyren Moore has produced 1,186 career points in his four seasons in Division I. Entering Saturday's game against Houston Christian, Moore sits with 948 points in a Georgia Southern uniform, looking to become the 47th Eagle all-time to collect 1,000 points.
  • Redshirt senior Alden Applewhite quietly is becoming an everyday producer for the Blue and White, averaging 13.0 points per game, and has now scored in double-figures in six of the seven games he has appeared in. In the Jacksonville Classic, Applewhite led all Eagles in scoring across two games, posting 34 total points, eight rebounds, one assist, and two steals. The Memphis, Tennessee, native finished 10-for-20 on the week from the field, knocking down three three-pointers in his 60 minutes of action. Applewhite is one of four Eagles to average in double-figures through the first eight games, joining Spudd Webb (13.9), Nakavieon White (13.0), and Tyren Moore (12.1). He is also the only Eagle this season to register a double-double in a game.
  • Third-year head coach Charlie Henry sets his sights on his next milestone victory this week at the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center. Coach Henry has produced 29 career victories with the Eagles, including an eight-win improvement from his first season in 2023-24, where the Eagles were 9-24.
  • With the Eagles returning to the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center this week, it marks the third and fourth home games of the season for Georgia Southern. Over the course of the next seven contests, the Eagles play five of their next seven games in Statesboro, hosting HCU, Louisiana Tech, Coastal Georgia, Georgia State, and James Madison. Five of the next seven games are also in the non-conference portion of the schedule, signaling the beginning of Sun Belt Conference play on December 18 against Georgia State.
